Managing Notifications & Test Mode

Lawnager sends automated notifications to your customers at key moments — quote delivery, invoice reminders, job confirmations, and more. Before any of those messages reach a real customer, you can preview exactly what they'll see using Test Mode.

This article walks you through configuring your notification preferences and safely testing your setup.

Where to Find Notification Settings

Go to Settings → Notifications. This is where you control which automated messages are active and how Test Mode works.

Types of Notifications You Can Manage

Lawnager can automatically send messages at the following touchpoints:

  • Quote sent — notifies a customer when a new quote is ready for review
  • Quote follow-up — a reminder if a customer hasn't responded to a quote
  • Deposit request — payment prompt tied to quote approval
  • Job scheduled — confirmation when a job is booked on the calendar
  • Job complete — notification when your crew marks a job as done
  • Invoice sent — delivery of an auto-generated invoice after job completion
  • Payment reminder — nudge for unpaid invoices
  • Review request — prompts the customer to leave a review via the portal

Each notification can be toggled on or off depending on what fits your workflow.

Enabling and Disabling Notifications

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications.
  2. Find the notification type you want to change.
  3. Toggle it on (blue) or off (grey).
  4. Changes save automatically — there's no Save button needed.

Tip: If you handle follow-ups manually or by phone, consider turning off Quote follow-up to avoid sending duplicate messages to customers.

Using Test Mode

Test Mode lets you send notifications to yourself instead of your actual customers. Use it any time you want to:

  • Preview the look and content of a message before going live
  • Confirm a new template is working correctly
  • Train a team member on what customers experience

How to Turn On Test Mode

  1. Go to Settings → Notifications.
  2. Find the Test Mode toggle near the top of the page.
  3. Switch it on.
  4. In the Test email address field, enter the email address where you want to receive test messages.

While Test Mode is active, any notification that would normally go to a customer is redirected to your test address instead. Your customers will not receive anything.

Sending a Test Notification

  1. With Test Mode on, trigger a notification the normal way — for example, send a quote or mark a job complete.
  2. Check the inbox of your test email address.
  3. Review the message for content, formatting, and links.

Turning Off Test Mode

Once you're satisfied, go back to Settings → Notifications and toggle Test Mode off. Notifications will immediately resume going to real customers.

⚠️ Common Pitfall: It's easy to forget Test Mode is on after an initial setup session. If customers tell you they're not receiving messages, check Settings → Notifications first to make sure the toggle is off.

Customizing Notification Content

The wording of your automated messages is controlled separately. To edit message templates:

  1. Go to Settings → Templates.
  2. Select the template you want to edit (e.g., Invoice Sent, Review Request).
  3. Make your changes and save.

After editing a template, use Test Mode to preview how it looks before customers see it.

Need Help?

If notifications aren't delivering even with Test Mode off, check that your customer's email address is saved correctly on their profile. For payment-related notifications, confirm your Stripe connection is active under Settings → Payments.
