Setting Up Venmo as a Payment Option
Learn how to enable Venmo so customers can pay invoices directly through Lawnager.
Last updated April 14, 2026
Venmo is a popular payment method, especially with residential customers who already use it for everyday transactions. Enabling Venmo in Lawnager lets customers pay invoices through the customer portal using their Venmo account — no extra apps or workarounds needed.
Before You Start
Venmo payments in Lawnager are processed through Stripe, so you'll need an active Stripe account connected before enabling Venmo. If you haven't set up Stripe yet, see Setting Up Stripe to Accept Credit Cards first.
Venmo availability may also depend on your Lawnager plan. Check Settings → Billing to confirm your current plan if you're unsure.
How to Enable Venmo
- •Go to Settings → Payments.
- •Under the Accepted Payment Methods section, locate Venmo.
- •Toggle Venmo to On.
- •Click Save Changes.
That's it. Once enabled, Venmo will appear as a payment option on invoices sent to customers and inside the Customer Portal.
How Customers Pay with Venmo
When a customer receives an invoice, here's what they'll experience:
- •They open the invoice link (via email) or log into the Customer Portal.
- •On the payment screen, they select Venmo as their payment method.
- •They're redirected to complete the payment through Venmo's flow.
- •Once confirmed, the invoice is marked as Paid in Lawnager automatically.
Payment is processed through Stripe's Venmo integration, so funds follow your normal Stripe payout schedule.
Accepting Venmo for In-Person or Manual Payments
If a customer pays you via Venmo outside of the portal (for example, they send money directly to your personal Venmo), you can record this manually:
- •Open the invoice from the Invoices page.
- •Click Record Payment.
- •Select Venmo as the payment method.
- •Enter the amount and any notes, then click Save.
This keeps your records accurate without requiring the customer to pay through Stripe.
Tip: Manual Venmo entries do not trigger a Stripe payout — they're for record-keeping only. Only portal-based Venmo payments are processed through Stripe.
Payment Reminders and Venmo
Lawnager's automatic payment reminders work the same way regardless of payment method. When a reminder goes out, customers will see all enabled payment options — including Venmo — on the invoice page. You don't need to configure reminders separately for Venmo.
To adjust your reminder schedule, go to Settings → Notifications.
Common Issues
Venmo isn't showing as an option for customers.
- •Double-check that the toggle is enabled in Settings → Payments and that you've saved your changes.
- •Confirm your Stripe account is connected and active. Venmo requires Stripe to be set up.
- •Venmo is only available to U.S.-based customers with a U.S. Venmo account.
Customer says the Venmo payment failed.
- •Ask the customer to verify their Venmo account is linked to an active bank account or debit card.
- •Venmo has its own transaction limits — large invoices may exceed a customer's Venmo limit. In that case, suggest an alternate payment method like credit card or check.
I don't want to offer Venmo anymore.
- •Go to Settings → Payments and toggle Venmo off, then save. It will no longer appear as an option on new invoices or in the portal.
