Getting Customer Reviews Through the Client Portal
Word of mouth is everything in lawn care. Lawnager makes it easy to collect reviews automatically after a job is done — no chasing customers down or sending awkward texts. Here's how the review flow works and how to make the most of it.
How the Review Process Works
Once a job is marked Complete, your customer can log into the Client Portal and leave a review for that job. The review option appears in their Job History alongside the completed service record.
Customers must be verified (logged into the portal) to leave a review, which keeps feedback genuine and tied to real work you've done.
Step 1: Make Sure Your Customer Has Portal Access
Before a customer can leave a review, they need access to the Client Portal. If you haven't invited them yet:
- •Go to Customers and open the customer's profile.
- •Click Send Portal Invite.
- •The customer will receive an email with a verification link to set up their access.
Tip: Get into the habit of sending portal invites when you add a new customer. The sooner they're set up, the sooner they can approve quotes, pay invoices, and leave reviews — all without calling you.
Step 2: Complete the Job
Reviews are only available for jobs in Completed status. Make sure your crew marks the job complete in the Crew Field App, or you update the job status manually:
- •Open the job from the Jobs page.
- •Click Mark as Complete.
This also triggers auto-invoicing if you have that enabled.
Step 3: The Customer Leaves a Review
Once the job is complete, your customer can:
- •Log into the Client Portal.
- •Navigate to Job History.
- •Find the completed job and click Leave a Review.
- •Submit their feedback.
You don't need to do anything to prompt this — the option appears automatically on completed jobs.
Encouraging More Reviews
Customers often need a nudge. A few ways to drive more reviews:
- •Use marketing automations. Set up an automated message in Marketing → Automations to follow up with customers after a job is completed. Point them to the portal in your message.
- •Mention it in person. Have your crew remind customers at check-out that they can rate the service in the portal.
- •Add it to your follow-up template. Go to Settings → Templates and customize your job completion message to include a line about leaving a review.
Common Pitfalls
- •Customer can't find the review option. Double-check the job is actually in Completed status — not just In Progress or Pending. Reviews only appear on fully completed jobs.
- •Customer never received the portal invite. Have them check their spam folder, or resend the invite from the customer's profile page.
- •Customer forgot their portal login. They can use the Forgot Password link on the portal login page to reset it.
Why This Matters
Reviews stored in Lawnager are tied directly to real, verified jobs — making them a credible record of your work. You can also use the Client Portal review history as social proof when talking to new prospects, and the Reports section gives you visibility into overall customer satisfaction trends under Customer Metrics.
Pro Tip: Pair your review strategy with the referral program. Happy customers who leave positive reviews are your best candidates to refer new business — and both of you benefit when they do. See the Referral Program article for details.
